Put in what you sold and what it cost, set the rules that apply where you are, and it works out the shape of the bill. Every rule here is a control rather than an assumption, because what you owe depends on where you live and this page cannot see that.

What this does not know

Worth reading before you rely on the number, because these are the things that most often change it.

  • Where you are

Rates, thresholds and the loss rule all differ by country, and several change year to year.

  • Your other income

Many regimes tax gains at a rate that depends on everything else you earned.

  • How long you held it

Some countries charge a different rate for a short holding than a long one. This does not ask, so it cannot apply it.

  • Which coins you sold

Where you bought the same asset repeatedly, the order it is treated as sold in changes the cost, and so the gain.

  • Everything that is not a sale

Swaps, spending, staking, airdrops and gifts are treated as disposals in some places and not others.

  • Your allowances

Exemptions and thresholds are not modelled at all, so a small gain may be taxed here that would not be taxed in reality.

Questions

Because what you owe depends on where you live and on your own circumstances, and neither of those is something this page can see. A calculator that picks a rate for you has decided your tax position on your behalf, quietly, and it will be wrong for most of the people who use it.

It decides whether a loss can be set against a gain. Where it can, you are taxed on the net. Where it cannot, you are taxed on every winning disposal and the losing ones simply do not count. On the same trades that is often the difference between owing nothing and owing the full amount, which is why it is a switch rather than an assumption.

Some regimes take a percentage at the point of sale rather than waiting for a return. It is charged on the proceeds, not on the gain, so it applies even to a disposal that lost money. Anything already withheld is counted against the bill here rather than added to it.

No. It is arithmetic on figures you typed, to give you a sense of the shape of it. It does not know your other income, your allowances, how long you held anything, or which of a dozen rules your country applies. Anything that matters should go to someone qualified in your jurisdiction.

No. There is no server behind this page. The rows live in the browser while the tab is open and are gone when you close it.

This is arithmetic on figures you entered, using rules you selected. It is not tax advice, it is not a tax return, and Crpko is not a tax adviser. What you actually owe depends on your jurisdiction and your own circumstances, and anything that matters should go to someone qualified where you live. See our risk disclosure.
